What is the reason behind Holika Dahan?
It is said that Holika was a good person. She was given the power by Brahma on the understanding that it can never be used to bring harm to anyone. Holika knew that what was happening was wrong and she gave them to Prahlad and hence died herself.
It is also said that Holika wore a shawl that would protect her from the fire. When she sat with Prahlad on fire, she wore that shawl. Prahlad began praying to Lord Vishnu so Lord Vishnu summoned a gust of wind to blow the shawl off of Holika and on to Prahlad. The shawl protected Prahlad and this was how Holika burnet but Prahlad didn’t
